¿ART? ¿OBJECTS? ¿DOORS?

Music, Literature, Theater, Painting, Dancing and even Architecture are different ways of expression that we can gather under a bigger category: ART. What is Art? Are strikes music? Am I being an artist if I am painting a house? Is Art a stiff, settled and static thing, or is it dynamic and abstract?

We must think about these questions, probably we would never find a complete answer, but that's not the point. To think about these questions is to begin to become aware of a huge new world and language.

We have seen that there are artistic objects, and that anything can be one. All we have to do is to take an artistic approach. Making Art is like using glasses. We can imagine that there are "math glasses" and "art glasses", for example. If we use the "math glasses" we tend to understand things in numbers or mathematical relations, on the contrary, if we use the "art glasses" we will see things artisticly. We can turn things into whatever we want. In our story we have already dealt with an example: a door. We saw that for an artist, a door can be the perfect way into the unknown. Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, Matrix, Monster Inc., and many other films and stories use the door as a key artistic objetc. How would the mathematician see the door?

Música, Literatura, Teatro, Pintura, Danza e incluso Arquitectura son diferentes formas de expresión que podemos reunir bajo el nombre de una categoría más grande: ARTE. ¿Qué es el arte? ¿Son los cacerolazos y las huelgas arte? ¿Si estoy pintando una casa estoy siendo un artista? ¿El arte es una cosa hermética, cerrada y estática o es algo dinámico y abstracto?

Debemos pensar estas preguntas, probablemente nunca vayamos a encontrar una respuesta completa, pero no se trata de eso. Pensar estas preguntas es comenzar a ser conscientes de un mundo y de un lenguaje nuevos.

Hemos visto que hay objetos artísticos, y que cualquier cosa puede ser uno. Todo lo que tenemos que hacer es encarar las cosas artísticamente. Hacer Arte es como usar lentes. Imaginemos que hay "lentes matemáticos" y "lentes artísticos", por ejemplo. Si usamos los "lentes matemáticos" tendemos a ver las cosas en términos de números y relaciones matemáticas, por el contrario, si usamos los "lentes artísticos" vemos las cosas artísticamente. Podemos convetir las cosas en cualquier otra cosa que queramos. En nuestra historia hemos trabajado ya con un ejemplo: la puerta. Vimos que para un artista, la puerta puede ser el perfecto paso hacia lo desconocido. Narnia, Alicia en el País de las Maravillas, Matrix, Monster Inc. y muchas otras películas e historias utilizan la puerta como un objeto artístico clave. ¿Cómo vería un matemático a una puerta?
